Community Golf in association with the Shoreditch Golf Club, hosts of the world’s first urban open, is staging the inaugural UK Cross Golf Open on Friday 15 May 2015 at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. Players will compete to win the Jeremy Feakes Memorial Trophy and a place representing the UK Team in the European Urban Golf Cup (EUGC), which will be held the next day (Saturday 16 May). The EUGC is the biggest cross golf event in Europe. In 2014, the tournament was held in Cologne, Germany and saw eight countries competing for the trophy, with Germany taking the title. Community Golf believes this is a perfect opportunity to introduce cross golf to a wider community, bring people together and share their love of the sport in all its forms. So if the thought of playing golf at London’s iconic Olympic Park appeals, sign up your team below!

What is Cross Golf?

It is sometimes known as Urban Golf or Street Golf. The premise is that it can be played anywhere. Cross golf is played with an almostGOLF ball, which is a safe alternative to a standard golf ball so there’s no damage to people and property. The almostGOLF ball is designed to mimic the spin, trajectory and other flight characteristics of real golf balls. The UK Cross Golf Open aims to unite all players of cross, urban, street and traditional golf with one purpose – the pursuit of playing golf and having fun! Our Community Golf players learn skills at our activation programmes that can transfer easily to both traditional and cross golf. Growing in popularity, cross golf provides something a little different for golf enthusiasts and beginners alike.

UK Cross Golf Open competitors are promised a fantastic day out. Not only will you be the first people to play golf at London’s iconic home of sport, but you will also stand a chance of becoming the first UK Cross Golf Team Champions. The top team will win the Jeremy Feakes Memorial Trophy, (named in honour of Shoreditch Golf Club’s founder) and qualify automatically to represent the UK at the EUGC, which Community Golf are proudly hosting the following day. Teams finishing in 2nd, 3rd and 4th spot will join the winners in the UK Team line up at the EUGC. For more details, check out our Frequently Asked Questions, or for the low down on the EUGC, click here. COMMUNITY GOLF MINI TOURNAMENT: As part of this fun-packed day, existing Community Golf sites have been invited to experience golf at the home of London 2012 in our afternoon activities session. Between 2pm and 4pm on Friday 15 May, Community Golf teams will compete in a inter-site tournament of skills challenges and cross golf holes. The challenges will be similar to those already experienced in our programmes, but in the most iconic of settings! How many people can say they’ve played golf at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park?!
BBC Breakfast News’ Mike Bushell will be trialling cross golf at our UK Cross Golf event on Friday 15 May and told us: “Cross Golf looks like an accessible version of the game which I see has been spreading golf to new communities around the world.  The UK Cross Golf Open is a first and it’s great to see Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park being used for new and innovative sports. I have played many new versions of golf and look forward to getting a taste of cross golf.”
